Amandine David is a designer and researcher based in Brussels. In her practice lying at the intersection of digital fabrication and traditional craft techniques, objects emerge as tangible traces of a process of learning, sharing and collaborating.
By working alongside craftspeople, programmers and architects, she explores the innovative possibilities offered by multidisciplinary dialogue. For her, weaving acts as a medium to critically reflect on technology, as a social gesture and as a mathematical language.
Amandine holds a Master’s degree in Social Design from Design Academy Eindhoven (2018) and was awarded the Henry Van de Velde Young Talent Award in 2023. She currently teaches at KASK in Ghent, in the Autonomous Design department. Her work is part of the collections of the CID Grand-Hornu and the Design Museum Ghent.
For Soft Assemblies, her first time exhibiting at Augusta, Amandine David presents Spending time with stone, a collaboration with basketry designer Esmé Hofman.
“We use either a lime-hemp mixture or raw earth. We apply around ten techniques by hand, working almost entirely without machines. After drying, the rough or polished finish reveals its terrazzo-like composition: we call it "earth marble".”
